LDR Truths from Going the Distance movie
Posted in LDR Inspiration, LDR Movies on 05. Sep, 2010
And so Dodong and I finally watched Going the Distance movie last Friday. It was refreshing as it's been two years or so since we last watched a movie together. And I really made it a point for us to get to catch Going the Distance since it is about us…well, a bit. Hehehe! It is about long distance couples like us!
Were we able to relate to the movie? There were sure wins (hitting the spot alright!) but there were some misses (at least for us).
What LDR truths can you expect from Going the Distance movie?
LDR Truth #1: Time difference is a B*tch.
There are times that I desperately need to talk to Dodong but could not due to time differences. Although I am willing to get the eyebags (sometimes), Dodong and I just cannot meet in the middle. I have to get to work early, while he has some errands to do among other things or is still stuck at work.
Though time diff is sometimes a good thing because it can be a scapegoat for your eyebags and pimples. Bad noh? Hehehe.
LDR Truth #2: Imaginary scenarios can make you go crazy.
I've had (and still do have) a gazillion "what if" and "what is" questions in my head when Dodong is in Dubai. It bothers me so much that it makes me go cuckoo. Ask my girlfriends and they will testify to this.
In order to survive and keep yourself sane, best to beef up your activity calendar just to get you distracted. But then again, sometimes the "what ifs" and "what is" questions creep up…These are inevitable. That's why activitiesssssss are very important AND friends who are very willing to listen. Hehehe!
LDR Truth #3: LDRs are not for everybody.
The line that stuck to me was (I hope i quote it right): "Seeing each other every 3 months is not a relationship."
I beg to disagree! Dodong and I see each other every 6-8 months and we are in a relationship! Imagine those with OFW husbands / wives who go home after a year or more. The truth is LDRs are not for everybody. It is a LOT of work and not all are willing to gamble. Bitter much? Hehehe!
Going the Distance, starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, is now showing in your favorite movie theatres!

P.S. For those who have not watched, don't worry as the movie is not all about LDR mush. I wasn't in the mood for that either. From Dodong's guffaws and snickers all throughout the movie, I knew he had a great time
Going the distance movie is a romantic comedy that's definitely not just for the chicks.

I love Drew Barrymore so I'm going to watch this. Thanks for the review.
@ AC: Drew Barrymore is such a sweetheart noh? Enjoy!
Surprisingly good film (from a clueless guy's point of view). Although I thought that there was way too much "f**king" in the movie… both the word usage and the deed. =D
@ Alvin: Glad you enjoyed the film as much as I did
Hehehehe. Dodong enjoyed the movie too. Even if there was too much of the F word ;p
