Keeping tabs with old friends, the old fashioned way…

Remember you had to answer these? (Image from hbc.djarv.co.uk)

When the days were a bit simpler and there were no social networks like Facebook / Twitter, we had three ways to keep track of our friends:

  1. The Address Book – which basically contained address (DUH!) and telephone numbers (home, office and fax numbers only…no mobile phones back then)
  2. The Picture Flap – which had at least one photo: graduation picture / studio picture (solo shot with standard sunflower straw hat) / ID photo WITH matching dedication handwritten at the back (the thicker your picture flaps are, the cooler you are since this meant you had lots of friends OR you just had lots of pictures of yourself ;p)
  3. The Slambook / Slumbook / Autograph book – which allowed your friend to fill in their contact details, post a picture (optional) answer a series of personal questions and write a dedication for you

Of all the three ways, obviously the slambook is the best as it almost had everything the address book and the picture flap had to offer plus more. It had a great way of bringing back precious memories between friends and the way things were. In this Social Internet Age with social networks and blogs, I wouldn’t have imagined that there still was a slambook until…

 THIS.

Witty will Save the World's brilliantly hilarious slumbook comeback

Witty Will Save the World, Co. is the mastermind behind this slambook. Yes, they are brilliantly witty…well versed in Filipino humor. So if you’re not Filipino, you may not find anything funny. Sadly. But if you are Filipino AND born in the 80’s and 90’s, hang on to your seats as going through the slambook is a laugh trip.

So your friends can tell you a little something about themselves…

In Facebook fashion, tell me what your relationship status is...Hehe!

Tell me your favorites. Like your favorite food...

...or your favorite TOE.

There are also serious questions like…

What do you believe in? Do you find yourself singing?

Let's get into some intimate details...like your first kiss!

I decided to buy this as I wanted to keep tabs and have a laugh with my friends whom I all left behind in the Philippines. You could actually order them online through their Multiply site here, but I chose to buy it through a reseller in Serendra since it was more convenient for me. It cost me around USD 7 (PHP 300), a bit expensive if you ask me; but believe me seeing my friends answer and read their answers on the slambook was simply priceless.

Don't forget to read their dedications ;-)

My favorite dedication? "Please don't change, but change for the better." Harharhar!

I plan to ask my new found Filipino Dubai-based friends to take a crack at the slambook too. Now this will be fun! Woohoo!

P.S. Drat, I forgot to watermark my photos :-( Yes, these photos are mine. Feel free to give me a buzz if you want to use any :-)
